Francesco Guerri and Nicola Guazzaloca first met in the late ’90s, in the midst of Bologna’s underground ferment — a scene still shaken by the restless, creative energies that would come to shape the city’s experimental tension.
An instinctive and profound connection links two singular, uncompromising artists whose work belongs to a territory that steadfastly eludes the reach of the mainstream.
Keep Your Hands Free adds an important chapter to the duo’s discographic path: while their first record (Nestor Makhno – stella*nera) retraced their 2009 tour through Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod, this new release documents their more recent live activity in their homeland.
Here, the musicians delve deeply into the expressive possibilities of their instruments, leading the listener on a stark, off-trail excursion — a visionary detour in which, beyond the hands, it may be wise to keep the rest unbound as well.
