Description

Lines of Flight captures the first meeting of three musicians connected by years of overlapping paths and shared listening. Recorded live at Elastic Arts in Chicago in October 2024, the album is completed by two duo pieces taped days later at Marmalade Studio.

Bassist Jakob Heinemann and Swiss reedist Sebastian Strinning developed their collaboration through exchanges and touring, while Chicago South Side artist Norman Long brings his work in field recording, sound synthesis and acoustic ecology into the trio’s orbit. Heinemann and Long share a long-standing engagement with acoustic ecology and both serve on the board of the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology, a connection that quietly informs the music’s attention to environment and sound.

Field recordings, prepared instruments and live electronics intertwine to form a shifting landscape of microscopic textures and patient transformations. The music unfolds through proximity and shared focus rather than gesture or display. The closing duo tracks offer a more intimate echo of this encounter, shaped by the heightened sensitivity that emerges on the road.

More than a first meeting, Lines of Flight documents a language already in motion — a quiet, precise convergence of listening, memory and place.
