Description

“Smòs Octet” is a suite based on the idea of combining three different musical styles and genres: improvisation, jazz and chamber Music.

Harmony, melody, rhythm and timbre: to each one of these four music parameters is given equal importance in the musical path, in the way that they respectively represent fire, air, water and earth. The octet is then split up into various groups, each one of which plays a specific role (i.e. timbre, melody, etc…) which changes over time.

The first movement, “What do you Know About Fire?”, is a free improvisation, which purpose is to depict fire as an indomitable element, also reminding of emotions and sensations that human beings felt the first time they have seen it.

This first piece initiates a musical journey in which the other three elements are combined with all the four music parameters, in different combinations.

On one hand, we can find evocative improvisations transforming into pure energy with no control at all; on the other, composed music to control such energy.
