Rui Faustino

Rui Faustino (*1975), born in Portimão, Portugal. In 1994 he enrols Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho, studying classical percussion under Miguel Bernat. Here he attends seminaries with Percussion Group Cincinnatti, Kroumata Percussion Ensemble and Fritz Hauser. From 1997 on he attends the Hot Club Portugal, where he studies with João Moreira, Bernardo Moreira and drum set with Aldo Caviglia. Seminaries with Gregory Tardy, Chris Cheek, Billy Hart. In 2002 he is admitted in Universität der Künste, Berlin, studying with David Friedman and Jerry Granelli. Seminaries with Joey Baron, Jamey Haddad, Matt Garrison. In 2016 he enrols for a master degree in Musical Arts in Universidade Nova de Lisboa, under Isabel Pires. Particularly active in jazz and improvised music, he leads his own quartet, FREN, featuring Silke Eberhard, Nikolaus Neuser and Jan Roder. Their debut CD “50”, received national and international critics, and got a honorable mention among the best records of the year by All About Jazz magazine. Worked with Axel Dörner, Antonio Borghini, J.P. Esteves da Silva, Carlos “Bechegas”, Nuno Ferreira, Matthias Bauer, Tobias, Delius, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, among others. Did music for film, theater and dance. Toured Portugal and Europe.
