Tomás Becket
Appears on:Jazz pianist, composer and improviser originally from the city of Barcelona. Although he considers himself self-taught for most of his training, he initally studied jazz piano at the
Taller de Músics de Barcelona and classical piano with private teachers, also attending several international jazz courses and seminars with teachers such as Chano Domínguez, Abe
Rabade, as well as several free improvisaton courses with Agustí Fernàndez.
He has been a pianist in a large number of jazz and Latn jazz groups, with whom he has played in various clubs and festivals in European countries (Spain, France, Holland), South America (Chile, Peru, Bolivia), where he has shared the stage with musicians such as David Pastor, Mario Rossy, Guillermo Calliero, Ramón Díaz, Julio Mendoza, Catharina Wiborgh, Voro García, Matt Baker and many others.
He has also been a member of several “World music” and fusion groups such as Gnawa Collective, and collaboratons with the Beninese musician Kouami Mensah and Maalem
Abderrazak Hadir, with whom he has played in “World music” festivals and in Spanish and Moroccan auditoriums.
He is the creator of the show “Around a Picture” with live music, contemporary dance, painting and lighting and has participated as a pianist in several free improvisation performances and
concerts. As an audiovisual composer, he has composed various pieces of music for short films and documentaries, for puppets and for advertising.
In September 2024 he released the quintet album, End of Cycle with his own compositions, wanting to maintain a musical stage, while starting another, where free improvisation and free jazz are the fundamental axes. Since that date he has been carrying out sessions and recordings with different musicians in this context, such as with guitarists Juanma Trujillo and Olivier Jambois, with whom he has recently released albums, or with vocalist Jordi Rabascall and drummer Joao Vieira. Likewise, he is traveling to Berlin assiduously, playing with free improvisation musicians such as saxophonist Anna Kaluza and drummer Martal Frenzel. In these same contexts he is beginning to collaborate with Butoh dance artst Josephine Grundy.
