Bruce Ditmas is a drummer, composer, producer who has been active on the American and International music scene for more than 50 years playing with many of the greatest masters of modern music, including: Gil Evans Orchestra, Paul Bley, Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, Enrico Rava, Roswell Rudd, Albert Mangelsdorf,f Bill Watrous, Kai Winding, Julien Priester, Lee Konitz, Chet Baker, Jim Hall, Steve Khan, Woody Shaw, Wallace Roney, Joe Newman, Don Cherry, Pete Candoli, Sam Rivers, David Sanborn, Joe Henderson, George Adams, Zoot Sims, Howard Johnson, Ira Sullivan, Steve Kuhn, Hank Jones, Jan Hammer, Thad Jones, Charlie Haden, Gary Peacock, Dave Holland, Airto Moreira, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Lew Soloff, Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand, Tony Bennett, Burt Bacharach, Johnny Hartman, Sheila Jordan, Flora Purim, Yolande Bavan, Chris Connor.
He played on Broadway (Promises, Promises) and he wrote music for film, tv, theater and dance. His electronic/drum recordings (Yellow, Aeray Dust and Visioni Sconvolgenti) have become “cult classics” and are considered to be very important breakthroughs in electronic music composition. He was a pioneer in the field of drum machines and midi keyboard sequencing. His style of drumming has developed over the years into a hybrid experimental extension of classic jazz and big band playing, with a focus on polyrhythm, open pulse playing and metric modulation.
