TONINO MIANO is a pianist, composer, educator, author, and visual artist whose work moves fluidly between composed and improvised music. Classically trained, he has consistently cultivated a parallel practice rooted in spontaneity, often exploring territories that cross and transcend established stylistic boundaries.

From 2006 to 2013, he founded and directed the independent label Impressus Records. During the same period, he co-curated, with Frantz Loriot, Avant Post, a monthly concert series dedicated to new music and improvisation held at Temple M in New York City. Miano has led or co-led numerous recording projects. Recent releases include Human Pieces (with Francesco Cusa, R. Grosso, and B. Groder, on Leo Records), Luminary (with A. Melani and R. Grosso), andTotemgami in duo with flutist Emilio Galante all of which reflect his ongoing engagement with collective improvisation and non-idiomatic musical forms.

He is also the author of the widely acclaimed Non-Tonal Technical Studies for Piano, a pedagogical work proposing an alternative technical and conceptual approach to the instrument. After spending almost three decades in New York City, Miano has relocated to Catania, where he is currently active as a performer, educator, and researcher.
