Omar Cecchi

Percussionist, drummer and researcher, he obtained the Diploma in Percussion Instruments, Cum Laudae and honors at the Conservatorio Cherubini (Florence). He is the founder of Konnakkol Italia.
In 2012, at the HEM de Genève (Swisse) he begins the study and research about Indian rhythmic systems. In 2007-2011 he attends the University of Florence, Mathematics.
At present he is studying Konnakkol with Somashekar Jois and Mridangam with Patri Satish Kumar.
As a performer he is particulary dedicated to contemporary music and research.
In 2017 he creates DUOroboros (cello-voice and drumset-percussion duo) specially dedicated to contemporary repertoire.
He is one of the founders of Ensemble degli Intrigati, winner of First Prize in international contemporary music competitions: Musikakademie Rheinsberg (Germany, 2021) and Festival Atemporanea (Argentina, 2022). He is the percussionist of contemporary music ensemble GAMO.
As a percussionist and timpanist he plays wih several orchestras and chamber groups.
Since 2014 he collaborates with Lombardi-Tiezzi theater company, playing on stages such as: RAI, Piccolo di Milano, Teatro Stabile di Torino, Aurum di Pescara, Teatro India di Roma.
In 2020 he founds Konnakkol Italia, dedicated to the study of the language of Konnakkol, its applications in different contexts and a broader research about Rhythm and Time from an ethnomusicological perspective.
