Trumpet player Mauro La Mancusa was born in Messina, Italy, on the 19th of January 1988. He grew up in a musical family and began playing trumpet at a young age in the local town’s brass band. In 2006 he moved to Pisa to study Iberian Languages and History of Art at the University of Pisa (graduating with top marks, 110/110 cum laude), gaining experience in research, translation, publishing and teaching at the Universities of Pisa, Coimbra and Pavia, and with the publishers Urogallo and Vittoria Iguazu.
In the following years began cultivating his passion for music and studied Jazz Trumpet at Siena Jazz University (graduating with top marks, 110/110 cum laude). At Siena his teachers included Giovanni Falzone and Fulvio Sigurtà, along with improvisation and combo classes with Stefano Battaglia, Yonathan Avishai, Maurizio Giammarco, Dan Kinzelman, Achille Succi, Ben Street, Gabriele Evangelista and Silvia Bolognesi.
Meanwhile, he had an intense live concert schedule, appearing at many festivals throughout Italy (L’Aquila – Il jazz italiano per le terre del sisma, Pisa Jazz, Casa del jazz Roma, Fara Music Festival, Barga Jazz Festival) and Europe (Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Albania, North Macedonia).
His artistic goal is to cultivate a personal sound and a peculiar choice of notes, put at the service of different music contexts, from contemporary (Mr Noe, Parking Attendants, Family Conflict) to mainstream jazz (Federico Frassi 4tet), from studio sessions with songwriters to intersections with world music (SuRealistas, Bobo Rondelli). As the philosopher said, “changing, it rests”.
