Massimo De Mattia is a flautist and composer from Pordenone, active for decades in contemporary jazz and European experimental music. A self-taught musician and artivist, his work is centred on improvisation, composition, and an extended approach to the flute, closely connecting musical research with social and political engagement.

He has released around fifty albums and collaborated with musicians including Evan Parker, Herb Robertson, Gianluigi Trovesi, Javier Girotto and Teho Teardo, alongside long-standing collaborators Giovanni Maier, Zlatko Kaučič, Bruno Cesselli and Denis Biason.

De Mattia is also the co-founder of projects such as Zerorchestra and Phophonix. His work has often developed in dialogue with other artistic disciplines, from his collaborations with writer Vitaliano Trevisan and filmmaker Alberto Fasulo to his thirty-year collaboration with visual artist Massimo Poldelmengo.

He received the Jazzit Award for Best Italian Jazz Flautist, and his work has appeared regularly in the annual Top Jazz poll for more than three decades.
