Giacomo Zanus (1994) is an Italian guitar player, composer, improviser, graduated in jazz guitar at Conservatory “G.Tartini” of Trieste where he studied among the others with Riccardo Chiarion, Giovanni Maier and Klaus Gesing. He attended also various seminars as Umbria Jazz Clinics, Siena Jazz and masterclass with Steve Swallow, Nick Bärtsch, Michele Rabbia, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Federico Casagrande, Paolino dalla Porta, John Hollenbeck.
Between 2018 and 2019 he moved to Oslo for short periods of residence where he took private lessons with the Norwegian guitarist Kim Myhr and in Copenhagen where he took lessons with the pianist Jakob Anderskov. Moreover in 2018 he has been selected to be part of “Experimental Music Camp” at the RMC Conservatory of Copenhagen led by Søren Kjærgaard, Michael Pisaro and James Fey.
Currently he is attending the “Permanent Laboratories of Musical Research” led by Italian pianist Stefano Battaglia at Siena Jazz University. In the 2018 he released his first album as leader called “Searching for the North” with Max Trabucco on drums, Mattia Magatelli on doublebass and trumpet player David Boato as guest. Zanus is also active as leader with other different projects like “Inside a frame” on solo guitar + live electronics and with his current main project, the quartet “KORA”.

Through his musical path Giacomo is interested in finding ways to merge composition with (free) improvisation by working with different structures and languages.
Although his main form of expression is the music, he may also name himself as a listener, an art and nature lover with a true and open-minded curiosity/passion about other different form of human expression like photography, poetry and literature. Giacomo’ s working aim as musician is to erase every form of stylistic musical, cultural and social boundaries, expressing himself freely and discovering a personal form of communication through composition and improvisation.
