Alessio Dal Checco (Padua, 1996) is a saxophonist and improviser, and one of the most dynamic and versatile voices on Milan’s contemporary music scene. He graduated with honors in July 2024 in Jazz Saxophone from the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan. His musical identity combines a strong academic background with an unceasing expressive research spanning jazz, funk-afrobeats, and avant-garde experimentation. A key member of leading ensembles such as Il Mago del Gelato, the trio Psoas, and the duo TSCP, Alessio has already built a substantial discography with five releases to his name. His live activity has brought him to some of Italy’s most prominent festivals and stages, consolidating his presence in major contexts such as the Concerto del Primo Maggio in Rome (2025), JazzRefound (2024), Umbria Jazz, Fara Jazz, and MI AMI Festival (in the 2023, 2024, and 2025 editions). His orchestral experience is equally rich: from 2017 to 2022 he was the principal tenor saxophone of the Civica Jazz Band directed by Enrico Intra, a role that allowed him to collaborate and share the stage with major figures of Italian and international jazz, including Tullio De Piscopo, Rita Marcotulli, Gianluigi Trovesi, Antonello Salis, and Rick Margitza. His versatility is rooted in an early and wide-ranging path, from his first international tours in Poland to longstanding collaborations with the Giovane Orchestra del Salento, where he recorded for projects featuring artists such as Ivano Fossati and Niccolò Fabi. From appearances on RAI television programs such as Nessun Dorma to radical improvisation residencies with the Conserere collective, Alessio Dal Checco continues to explore the sound of the saxophone as a bridge between the jazz tradition and new currents in contemporary music.
