Carlotta Armbruster was born in Stuttgart in 2004 and began learning classical trombone at the age of nine. After completing preliminary studies in jazz trombone at the HMdK Stuttgart with Johannes Lauer, she began her bachelor’s degree at the HfMT Köln with Shannon Barnett in 2023. She played in the Baden-Württemberg State Youth Jazz Orchestra and was a member of the German Federal Jazz Orchestra, with which she toured Ecuador and Montenegro. With the European Broadcasting Union’s “Euroradio Jazz Orchestra”, she played concerts in Lithuania in 2023. She also appeared on stage in the Grand Hall of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg in 2025 as a participant in the week-long “Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy”. Carlotta Armbruster is an integral part of the Cologne jazz scene and performs as a trombonist in her own projects, such as her trio, piano-trombone duo or quintet with trumpeter Jànos Löber. She also plays in several other musically diverse projects throughout Germany, including the “Nico Klöffer Trio”, the “Samuel Restle Big Band” and Thomas Sauerborn’s “Mirabelle”. Her stylistic spectrum ranges from freely improvised music to duo and trio formations to large ensembles and big bands.
