Mattia Bassetti graduated with honors in Jazz Drums and Percussion from the Conservatory of Bologna and is an accomplished professional musician in the contemporary jazz scene. Over the years, he has performed at major festivals, including Entroterre Jazz and the Bologna Jazz Festival with his project Venus Ship, with which he has released several recordings, such as Underground Foxies and Impossible Escape. These projects showcase his strong artistic identity and commitment to original composition.
Alongside his work with Venus Ship, he has collaborated extensively with the Francesco Cavestri Trio, performing in the “Giovani Leoni” concert series at Casa del Jazz in Rome, as well as at Umbria Jazz. He has also appeared in prestigious venues such as the Cotton Jazz Club, performing with bassist Riccardo Oliva and renowned trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso.
During his studies, he played in projects such as the Martini Big Band, performing at the Porretta Soul Festival, and with the Orchestra Angelica, performing at Teatro di San Leonardo in a concert broadcast by RAI Radio 3. He also participated in ensembles created for masterclasses with pianists Gill Goldstein and, in the following year, Bill Carrothers, within the framework of Camera Jazz.
In 2025, he was selected as a finalist for Conad Jazz with his project Homlette Octet, further establishing himself as one of the most promising voices on the Italian jazz scene.
