Leonardo Cincinelli
Appears on:Leonardo Cincinelli is an Italian pianist, keyboardist, producer, and composer whose work moves between jazz, electronic music, and free improvisation. Born in Tuscany in 1983, he began studying piano at the age of seven and later attended Siena Jazz and the Saint Louis College of Music in Rome, where he developed a strong interest in synthesis and electronic production.
After early activity in the Italian jazz scene with projects such as Lostress and the collective Deejazz, he moved to Barcelona in 2010 to study music production at Microfusa. There he became involved in the city’s underground electronic scene under the alias Leomode, performing hybrid live sets that combined improvisation with house and techno while also releasing lo-fi beat productions influenced by jazz and bossa nova.
Over the years Cincinelli has collaborated on a wide range of projects, including Nu Epoque, an electronic / neo-soul / afrofuturistic group founded with singer-producers Siwo and Monica Mussungo, and Art.eria, an ensemble co-founded with pianist and arranger Mariano Camarasa that blends jazz improvisation, electronic production, and cinematic textures.
Alongside his performing activity, he works as a session pianist and producer, collaborating with artists worldwide through platforms such as SoundBetter and AirGigs.
In recent years his work has increasingly focused on free improvisation and experimental music, leading to projects such as Jazz Doesn’t Like You and Otrotrio and to the creation of La Otra Jam, a Barcelona-based laboratory for improvised music that regularly brings together musicians from the city’s experimental scene.
Improvisation remains the central principle of his practice: a way to keep music open, unpredictable, and alive in the moment.
