Francesco Benizio began his musical journey at the age of 13, first immersing himself in hard rock and metal before transitioning into the world of jazz. He pursued formal jazz studies at Siena Jazz University (SJU), where he trained under esteemed educators Ettore Fioravanti, Enrico Morello, and Francesco Petreni.
As part of the euJamm project, led by Aldo Bassi and Roberto Spadoni, Benizio deepened his experience in ensemble work and improvisation. His participation in summer workshops provided the opportunity to perform alongside acclaimed international artists, including Matt Penman and Donny McCaslin.
He earned his master’s degree with honors in jazz drums from the Conservatorio G.B. Martini in Bologna, studying with Stefano Paolini and Stefano Zenni. Through masterclasses and artistic residencies, he also performed with prominent figures such as Joëlle Léandre and Paolo Fresu.
Benizio has been a finalist in several prestigious competitions, including Chicco Bettinardi (group category), Olimpico Jazz Fest, and the Conad Jazz Contest.
He has graced the stages of numerous renowned festivals and venues, including Casa del Jazz, Umbria Jazz, Moncalieri Jazz Festival, Piacenza Jazz Fest (Sala degli Arazzi), Milestones Club, Fanano Saxophone Week, Porretta Soul Festival, Bravo Caffè, JazzAlguer, and Cappella Farnese in Bologna. His performance history also includes appearances at Link, Dumbo, Zu.Art Bologna, La Vena del Jazz, Eufonica Fest, Festival Fare Musica – Meeting with Italian Jazz Labels, Bruscello San Gusmè Theatre Company, SI, Festival Big Band Ritmo-Sinfonico “Città di Verona”, Fondazione Lucio Dalla, and La cultura rinasce (e passa per la Valtellina).
