Davide La Rosa
Appears on:Davide La Rosa is an Italian guitar player. Born in Civitavecchia in 1999, he began studying modern guitar at the age of 12 at the Lituus School of Music in Santa Marinella (Rome), under the guidance of maestros Roberto Pizzo and Duilio Galioto. He later moved to Ferrara, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Jazz Guitar (both cum laude) at the Frescobaldi Conservatory of Ferrara, studying with Daniele Santimone, Fabrizio Puglisi, Achille Succi, Alessandro Paternesi, Marta Raviglia, and Roberto Manuzzi.
He has taken part in various projects: with the quartet “Progetto Pasolini”, he won the Critics’ Award at the “Jaci e Jazz” competition (2022 edition), which was also featured in the renowned monthly magazine Musica Jazz; with the same group, he also won the “Mister Jazz” 2022 competition in Anzola Emilia (BO). He recorded the soundtrack for the film Tre storie in bottiglia directed by Giuseppe Gandini (2023); with the group “Ars Antiqua World Jazz Ensemble”, he recorded the album L’amore è una fiamma, and was awarded third place along with a special critics’ prize at the Alberto Cesa Award during the 2024 edition of “Folkest”; with the collective “Tribalia”, he recorded the album Deconstruction, available on Bandcamp; he also recorded with the music-theatre project “A Pupa No Scaluni”, soon to be released; and with artist Benny Di Guardo, he released the independently produced album Sweet Colored Love in 2021.
He has performed in numerous venues, including: in Ferrara – Torrione Jazz Club, Estense Castle, Palazzo dei Diamanti, the Ridotto of the Municipal Theatre, and the Casa Romei Museum; in Rome – Cotton Club, Traffic Live, Planet, and the Orange Garden (Giardino degli Aranci); and in Dublin – the Concert Hall of the TU Dublin Conservatoire.
He has attended masterclasses with Peter Bernstein, Jesse Van Ruller, Rale Micic, Antonio Cavicchi, Francesco Diodati, Cristiano Arcelli, Marcello Allulli, Enrico Zanisi, Fulvio Sigurtà, Francesco Ponticelli, Alessandro Paternesi, Dudu Kwate, Simon Purcell, Christopher Culpo, Reda Zine, Kalifa Kone, among others. He also participated in the 2019 edition of the Berklee Clinics at Umbria Jazz.
He has performed in various festivals, including Fresh and Bold and International Jazz Day at the Torrione Jazz Club (Ferrara), MiXXer (Ferrara), Umbria Jazz (Perugia), Jaci & Jazz (Catania), Correggio On Time (Correggio, Reggio Emilia), and Folkest (San Daniele del Friuli).
He is currently active in several projects, including the trio “TETSUO”, with which he released the EP Con ombra di dubbio (self-produced and available on Bandcamp), featuring both original compositions and rearrangements of works from the jazz tradition, standards, folk music, and more. Memories of Dublin is a solo guitar project with a more improvisational approach, drawing on jazz, rock, noise, electronics, and prepared guitar techniques.
